Living in Beijing
Actually, I don't like so much to live in Beijing, because it's sometimes too stressful. There are just too many people and too many noises here.
Everybody looks so busy. And so do I. We have no time to care about others and we have no time to really enjoy our life.
The air is not clean enough, nor is the water. We are not sure about the quality of the things we eat.
I would really like to live in a smaller city like Lijiang in Yunnan if I could choose. But I can't until I get retired. At least it seems so to me at the moment. And that's the problem.
And it's so difficult to make friends here as a Chinese. I say so because it will be much easier for a foreigner for people here are kinder to a foreigner, especially to a white person. Maybe that's just my feeling though.
Anyway I wish I could enjoy more. I am just so tired.
- Hi Helen,
I lived in New York City for many years before moving to the country. I agree that life in a big city is not so pleasant. Too much noise, people, cars, dirty air and sidewalks. People are too busy and tired to make friends. In New York one should not look at another person because that person might not like it for any reason and might attack you. Once I moved to a less populated place I was surprised how much friendlier people were there. I am glad we are friends with you! - Hi Helen, I agree with Helen above. It seems that your comments are similar to what most people say in a big city. I remember New York city in the 1980s. Crime was high, poverty was high, and good honest people were scared and tired of the city. Things have improved a great deal in New York but it still requires a great deal of energy and patience. I hope you find time to enjoy life. I also plan to move away from the big city to have a more relaxed living atmosphere. Have a great week!
