My son and my husband:
My son always wants to be independent. He only wants to do what he likes to do. Unfortunately, my husband, his father, always wants to tell him what to do or what not to do.
When my son was still small, he knew he had to obey his dad. But I could see clearly that he was very unhappy.
Now, in the middle of his adolescence, he said that he sometimes would feel like exploding when his father pushed him.
So I told my husband not to push him too hard and to give him more freedom. But then my son's score in the school got bad. And my husband started to blame on me saying that I should have been more strict with him.

This is a very common situation. Your son is no longer a baby, he is becoming a man. All men( and women) want respect. Telling him what he should do is disrespectful and makes him feel resentful. At this age parents should sit down in a friendly manner and discuss his obligations and his needs/wishes. The decisions should be made by him. If he feels pushed constantly he might rebel and do opposite things. He understands a lot more than you think. Be gentle and show appreciation of his good behavior.
I had teenage kids several years ago. It was a difficult time for all of us but I am proud of them now as they became adults.
