i agree with what you said. but i have to say that  what you have done or should do should be much more than what you have said or shoud say if you love your motherland truely. advantages can make us confident but disvadvanges can make us brave, just like what a chinese proverb'知耻而后勇' says.

This is an intriguing conversation.  During my visit to China, I found that the people had a sense of a greater good for the country and understood that they had a role in helping China maximize that greater good.  It was very selfless and inspiring.  Would my Chinese friends here agree?

yeah, because our goverment or party only report the goodside of society, always try to hide the corruption and scandals from the people! so ,for some degree, ordinary people are blinded!

but i dont think all the are selfish and inspiring as you said. maybe the situation you met is common decades ago around 60 0r 70's... nowdays people all concern about personal  interest. chinese people, especial ordinary, dont care much the communism.  no selfless or inspiring .

i wonder when did you hit china, and what people you know are with such characters? maybe you should come here with an magnifier to scrutiny chinese next time, lol

what i said above is according to overall case, exceptions always exist...
